Central MA Chapter of Trout Unlimited - September Newsletter

September Meeting - Due to the Labor Day Holiday, there will be no September Meeting. The first CMTU Fall meeting will be in October (10/7)

A 2018 - 2019 Season in Review:

The move to the Auburn Sportsman’s Club is continuing to be mutually beneficial. What a wonderful facility, perfect for our chapter’s needs. From supporting our monthly meeting, our High School Fly Fishing Championship and the CMTU Banquet - what a great location. We thank the Auburn Sportsman’s Club.

The Banquet was again a huge success. I’ve been to many banquets, and the food put together by Steve and his team is by far the best - Much better than what you would find at the nicest restaurants. This food makes for a great foundation for our terrific event.

To go along with the great meal, we had a couple Card raffles for new rod and a new reel to complement our over 40 bucket raffles that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. And, to help support the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, the proceeds from the 50/50 raffle (over $100) went to help with the stocking efforts of the trout ponds.

The same day, we had the annual MA State Fly Fishing Championship. The new venue provided a much better viewing of the event and provided the friends and family members and nice place to view the proceedings.

Our catch was up significantly from last year’s tournament on the Quinie. Almost all the contestants landed fish with winner netting a nice rainbow just over 16”. The water level was a little higher than we expected, but the kids took on the challenge and all did a very good job.

We had Hot Dogs and goodies for both the contestants and the spectators - A very good event.

Cheeky Reels, Cabela's, Cote's and Orvis provided some very nice prizes for both the Banquet and the High School Championship. We reel-ly appreciate the support these fine suppliers of fishing gear and urge our chapter members to support when purchasing your fishing equipment.

I was unable to make this year’s Farmington event, but understand this was well attended and very productive on the water. The Fly-Give-Away program will be reviewed by the board and discussed as to moving forward with a similar plan for this Fall. We will also discuss the patterns and make sure they were beneficial.

Looking forward to the 2019-2020 Meeting Schedule and hearing about your ideas and interests. Send them along via email or bring them to the meeting to share over pizza.
