January Chapter Meeting –

Hello Central MA Chapter of Trout Unlimited,

I hope all have enjoyed the busy Holiday Season. Did you find that new fly rod under the tree?

And busy applies also to big happenings for our Chapter. The Quinie dam removal is moving forward. We are engaged with the State and are having meetings to find areas to lend support. This is a great time to come on down and get an update on this major environmental project that will have a significant conservation improvement to the Cold Water Resource.

The timing for the project as the actual completion of the project in 2024. But there is much work to me done now to optimize this project.

The State asked us to work on the fishing piers that will make the fishing experience that will allow those with mobility impairment access to this wonderful opportunity. We are currently working on a grant from TU National to help fund this aspect of the project. Also interested in additional ideas to raise some funds to help support this piece of the overall project.

In addition to the fishing piers, we will be looking for additional ideas for projects to provide other improvements to the Quinie. We will discuss in the January meeting and see if there are some projects that we can lead that could provide some opportunities for local high schools and conservation groups - along with getting ready for the 2023 fishing season.
