About Us

Trout Unlimited is the leading conservation organization working to care for and recover rivers and streams and the trout [AND SALMON WHERE APPROPRIATE] that call them home. We bring people together to care for their rivers and help make our water cleaner and our communities healthier.

The Central Massachusetts Chapter of Trout Unlimited (chapter #148) was formerly known as the Greater Worcester chapter.  In 2008, the chapter merged with the Quaboag chapter to form the current Central Massachusetts chapter.  The chapter currently has approximately 300-350 members, and meets monthly at the Auburn Sportsman’s Club located at 50 Elm St # A, Auburn, MA 01501.

CMTU chapter meetings run monthly from September through May with an annual fundraising banquet in late-Winter/early-Spring.

The CMTU chapter territory encompasses portions of several major Massachusetts river basins/watersheds, to include: Blackstone, Nashua, Assabet/Sudbury, Chicopee, French and Quinebaug.  Major Home Waters for the chapter include the Quinipoxet River, Stillwater River, Quaboag River, Hamant Brook and Wekepeke Brook.

CMTU is adjacent to six of the other local TU chapters in the MA/RI TU Council.  They are: Millers River, Squan-a-Tissit, Greater Boston, Sourtheast Mass, Pioneer Valley, and Northern Rhode Island.  CMTU routinely teams with these and other TU chapters on various conservation, youth education, fundraising, and fly fishing events.

The CMTU chapter publishes a monthly newsletter distributed online and via electronic mail.

As a conservation organization, the Central Massachusetts Chapter:

  • Cares for local rivers and streams and trout populations through stream restoration projects, cleanup days, and community science programs
  • Advocates for the protection of rivers and streams locally, as well as in unison with national TU priorities across the country
  • Partners with national TU conservation staff, local and state agencies and regional environmental organizations to implement conservation programs, with a focus on work in TU’s Priority Waters
  • Mobilizes the entire community to care for their waters
  • Hosts regular events, social gatherings and local fishing outings that connect people with their rivers and streams
  • Inspires the next generation with environmental education programs

We invite you to join us by attending an event, volunteering for a project, signing up for our email newsletter and becoming a member!
