November 2024 Chapter Meeting
Central MA Chapter of Trout Unlimited - November Newsletter
Hello Cold Water Fisheries Advocates,
Time to start up the Fall meeting schedule, share some stories of fun on the water and fill some of those holes in the fly box made by donations at the stream.
The November meeting will be held at the Auburn Sportsman’s Club.
Date: Monday, Nov 4th
Start Time: 6:00PM
Dave Fox will lead us with some excellent instruction on the vice. Bring your own equipment, but we also have some vises and tools if this is your first time. We are very interested in patterns that are working for you that you would like to share or those patterns that you just need a little pointer or two to improve the final fly and increase the chances of a take!
Time to start talking about event opportunities for the Chapter and our local Community. We would love to hear any of your ideas on events that are either fishing or community service/Cold Water related. Please send your thought and ideas to:
Project #1 - The Quinie Dam Removal.
We are going to start a photo journal, on what many consider to be the biggest conservation project in the State, at the end of November. These photos will help document the project and can be used for future presentations and a historical record of the event. in addition to the photos, we will be publishing upcoming public meetings on this topic and will start to work with the State and local parties of interest, on celebration of the completion. Our perspective on this change will not nearly equal that of those 6 pound rainbows that will invade what was safe for 5X.
Conservation activities near and upstream will be a great opportunity to engage the local community. This is an ara that we could use your help with regards to suggestions. Once we have some ideas, we will put together a plan the chapter and community to make this an even better outcome for our local stream.

Event #1 - The Caddis Weekend on the Deerfield - Estimate is June
Each year the council holds an event at the Deerfield River called Caddis Weekend. This stream has a very good reputation for caddis and this weekend is always yielding a tremendous number of caddis. Dry Fly fishing is on fire!
The dates should be announced early into 2025. We will include in the newsletter and discuss at the meeting. The chapter usually takes care of the nightly fees.
This is a great event to meet other members from local chapters and have fun enjoying some of the best fly fishing waters in the state.
Event #2 - A weekend on the Farmington River in CT.
This was an annual event for our chapter prior to Covid. Time to get this back on the Calendar and enjoy what many consider to be some of the Best Fly Fishing waters in New England. This Freestone river is only a couple hours from Worcester and has a steady supply of nice hatches.
We usually stay in some cabins in a local state camping area. These are located a few hundred feet from some really nice sections of the river. In addition, we have the world famous Central MA Breakfast Sandwich. The sandwich alone is worth the drive.
We hope to see you at the November meeting and as always -
Pizza Will be served!
